The Mobile Bay Business Journal Moves to Online Only Format

Mobile, Alabama – December 2, 2008 – The Mobile Bay Business Journal is proud to announce that the publication has moved to an online only format.

The move away from the print version is in response to market trends that point toward readership preference for electronic formats, shrinking print advertising markets, and advertiser's desire for more online presence and availability to mobile information formats.

Dave Perry, MBBJ publisher, says the move is a strategic one that was driven by data and solid information about the changing newspaper business. "Clearly, more people are getting their information electronically. Going to an online only format allows for timely updates and providing business-related news on a same-day basis," states Perry. In the past the MBBJ was a monthly, print-only tabloid-style newspaper.

Perry expects the change to provide increased readership and the addition of new options such as video broadcasts and slideshows. "Going online is transforming the MBBJ from a monthly publication to a daily publication. Using the technology available we can now provide video coverage of events; that brings business news reporting from past tense to present tense."

The online only move also allows advertisers to increase their internet exposure to potential customers at a reasonable cost. "Just having a website is not enough, people have to be able to find you on the net and the MBBJ can facilitate that," Perry states.
